Vidzeme, Latvia
Vidzeme is one of the historical and cultural regions of Latvia, which covers the central and northern parts of Latvia. The region has a beautiful rocky coastline, hills, gorges and valleys and has many large, historical cities (Sigulda, Cesis, Valmiera, Ligatne). The river Gauja runs through the region and attracts visitors with its sandstone cliffs and the Gauja National Park, which is the largest and oldest national park in Latvia. The region offers opportunities for boating, cycling, kayaking and hiking and in the winter, for various winter sports.
